Dearest Chippies,

We meet again. Yet another Thursday come far too fast. As I sit in the office reflecting back on the past four weeks, I can’t help but appreciate the bittersweet feeling that always comes with the end of first session. Albeit a reminder of how quickly the summer is flying by, there is something to be said for the perspective that it brings. The growth, laughs and memories that the past four weeks have created, as well as the potential that the next four weeks hold. All I will say is that if second session is anything like first session, this summer is shaping up to be the best we have seen in a long time…

Not surprisingly, today was another awesome day here at #TheRanch2018. Let me tell you—first session may be coming to a close, but energy and enthusiasm is certainly not fading. After a morning of dance show rehearsing and cabin bonding, we gathered this afternoon at the Center Fire Circle for our final campfire of first session. The four-week Lakeview girls gave heartfelt speeches reflecting on their careers as campers, each highlighting in their own ways the impact that Chippewa has had on them over the past several summers. I especially loved when they directed their speeches toward the younger campers, encouraging them to take advantage of the many experiences, opportunities and privileges that being a camper at CRC has to offer. It is clear that Chippewa has influenced each of these campers immensely, and I was impressed listening to them articulate this impact in front of the entire camp community.

Following the campfire, we all headed into the mess hall for 4-Week Banquet. After a delicious pasta dinner, 4-week campers were presented with activity awards. There was a lot of cheering, smiling and pride that filled the room tonight as campers accepted awards for determination, achievement and so much more. A special congratulations to our Ranch Queen, Mallanah J, and our 2018 4-Week Honor Camper, Lauren F. You are both examples of true Chippy Girls and are very worthy of these respective titles!

And there you have it, friends. Another one for the books. Thanks for reading—I look forward to seeing some of you tomorrow night and the rest of you back here next Thursday!

Sincerely,
Soph Aloaf
