The Sari Diaries- Friday 7/10/15

Thursday, July 09 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

It has truly been a beautiful day in the Northwoods and one that was everything a camp day should be- full of fun, laughs and spirit. It is crazy to think that in less than one week, we will be holding our final first session campfire and eating at the Four Week Banquet. I know I say this often, but today is just one of those days that I feel so lucky to spend my summers on Dam Lake and among the greatest group of campers and staff on the planet! Here are today’s details…

  1. Today’s regular activities were outstanding. It probably seems like I am always raving about our activities, but today was extra special through my eyes. Not only did I get to participate in first period tennis, I also had the privilege of taking cooking with fifteen Lakeview campers and Kate S from A-Frame. There were a couple of special moments during the hour class and while the banana bread that we baked was fantastic, that wasn’t even the best part. I walked into the CRC Cooking Academy to find Joie Y (a Lakeview camper) as the instructor. She is getting her IA in cooking this summer and the class ran extremely smoothly. While waiting for our bread to bake, Ellie M, Sydney F, Blair P and Graci G shared with me, “The perfect camp moment” when they were in fishing during third period and had the opportunity to look out on the lake at all of kayakers, skiers, sailers and blobbers having the times of their lives. I always love my conversations with campers but it is especially meaningful when they come to tell me about their appreciation for camp. It was a pretty sweet moment!

  1. In other activity news, Skylar S was the tennis player of the week and she was announced today at lunch. Additionally, in pottery they are creating #TheRanch2015 out of clay. Some campers are working to make the stables, others are working on the waterfront and the rest have chosen other parts of camp. It is a very cool project and the campers are loving it!

  1. Trailriders had a wonderful day on Mackinac Island. They took the ferry over this morning, rode their bikes around the island and enjoyed perfect weather! We have missed them these past two days but are happy that they are having such a nice time on their camping trip. We will all eagerly welcome them back tomorrow night for dinner!

  1. The theme of tonight’s campfire was “Making a Difference.” Hannah C did an exceptional job leading us all tonight and both the speakers and CR-Singers really added to the quality of the program. Friday nights are such a juxtaposition to the rest of our time at camp in that they are a quieter time to reflect and just take in all that camp has to offer. While the other six days of week we are all rowdy and crazy, Fridays are a unique time that we all love.

Aside from the above excitement, my sister Rachel came with two of her cabinmates to visit for the weekend. I am so happy that they are here and they are thrilled to be jumping back into camp life for the next couple of days. And those are the highlights from July 10, 2015 at CRC. Thanks for reading this evening and have a wonderful night!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
