What We Look For

Our excellent camp staff is comprised of Senior Counselors (19 and older), Junior Counselors (17 & 18), and Counselors in Training (16-year-olds). We also have Activity Instructors who are hired strictly on the basis of their experience with children and expertise in a certain skill set. We have an extensive support staff consisting of two registered nurses, a child psychologist, a maintenance and cleaning crew, a security team and an outstanding 9-piece kitchen staff.

The majority of our staff members have spent years at Chippewa, first coming as campers and now returning as staff. Each summer about 85%+ of our camp staff return to Chippewa for another season. It makes us proud to see the importance that Chippewa has played in our staffer’s lives, and their annual return shows their devotion to this special place. Staff at Chippewa form friendships and bonds that span across the world and last for a lifetime!

Each summer we hire about 100 staff both internationally and from all over the 50 United States. This special diversity helps us to enhance the multicultural richness of our program and community.

We have high expectations of our staff and put a significant amount of emphasis on hiring adults who we feel will serve as both great role models AND adapt nicely into our camp community. We do extensive background checks and meticulously vet candidates for our camp positions to make certain that camp employment will be mutually beneficial.
