FAQs
How can we communicate with our child? Chippewa is proud to give our campers the opportunity to send home hand written letters as often as they like! With computers and email at everyone's fingertips, camp offers children the chance to revisit this lost art. We limit camper phone calls to special occasions, birthdays and emergencies. Parents are welcome to send one-way emails to their child through their Camp In Touch account .
How can we communicate with camp? Please feel free to call or email us at anytime. A director will always be available to respond to your questions, comments and concerns.
FAQs
What is your healthcare, both in and out of camp? We have two wonderful nurses coming to Chippewa this summer. They have many years of experience. All medications are distributed from the infirmary in a private manner, and all medications must be kept there. We will also have visiting doctors and their families with us from week to week throughout the summer. Cliff Lissner is an Emergency Medical Technician who has undergone paramedic training. Many of our staff are also lifeguard and CPR certified through the American Red Cross.
FAQs
If required, we will take any camper who is under the weather to Marshfield
Clinic in Minocqua, which is approximately 20 minutes away. This is a fantastic
health clinic with the finest healthcare. If there is an emergency requiring
immediate attention, 911 service is available and the Howard Young, Eagle River
Hospital is just 10 minutes away.
FAQs
How much do we have to buy before camp?
The camp list is pretty basic. Your child will need 2 sets of cot sheets, a comforter, sleeping bag, a couple of Chippewa t-shirts, and that's about it. The laundry goes out once a week, gathered in the evening and returned the following morning. Of course, the girls need clothes like shorts, socks and underwear. Basics like a rain slicker, and tons of socks and undies are recommended, BUT NOTHING THAT'S VALUABLE! We encourage parents to pack things that are replaceable. For more ideas on what to bring to camp, see our Clothing and Equipment list.
FAQs
Can my daughter receive food in packages? No! We ask that friends and family refrain from sending food of any kind into camp and respect our no food policy.
FAQs
How is the safety? Safety is our number one concern. We screen all staff coming in with extensive interviewing, multiple references and background checks. All of our waterfront staff are either WSI or lifeguards through the American Red Cross, and campers wear life jackets while aboard any boat at all times. Our staff that teach the climbing wall are certified by the rock climbing association during staff orientation. Many of our staff are also CPR certified. We have gates around the entire camp which are locked at night, and staff members patrol the campgrounds all night. Finally, we make sure that one counselor is in the cabin all night.
FAQs
Does my daughter have to write home? Yes. Two days from each week are called "letter writing days". The Head Counselor and the Village Directors make certain that every single child sends a letter to their home on these days. Mail is slow up here so please allow three to five days for delivery. Can my daughter receive packages? We no longer allow the girls to receive packages at camp. Birthdays and boxes containing important items left at home are exceptions. Be sure to contact our office if either apply to your case.
FAQs
Will there always be a staff member in my daughter's cabin at night? Yes. Each building will have at least one counselor on duty all night. Staff members are off 3 nights per week and are not premitted to leave camp until their cabins are secured and covered by at least one remaining counselor.
