The Sari Diaries- Wednesday 7/26/16

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

I report to you this evening a bit damp from all of the rain that is pouring over Chippyland. It was a good day but we did have to alter our plans due to the weather. We obviously still managed to have fun and make the most of being together. Here are today’s highlights…

This morning was rainy from the start and about three quarters of the way through breakfast, campers and staff began singing “I’m so tired…” I haven’t heard that song in ages and we haven’t had a lazy day in a long time, but birthday girl, Danielle K, convinced me that it was just what the camp needed. So at the end of breakfast, we declared a lazy morning. Everyone was thrilled and cheered for Danielle!

Each cabin had their own interpretation of a lazy morning…a few caught up on some much needed rest, others played cards and wrote letters and then there were some that were hanging out around camp and in the office. Regardless of what they chose to do, everyone enjoyed their relaxation and the loose structure of the morning.

After lunch, we had our International Five Year ceremony for a record of three staff members. Luke Harris, Kenny Diaz and Xio Narez were all deservingly honored for their commitment to CRC. Coming from another country and prioritizing Chippewa for five summers is quite a demonstration of loyalty and dedication to this place and all of us who call it our home. I know I am not alone in saying that I truly appreciate these three individuals and feel lucky to have spent five summers with them at this special place!

Tonight was T.A.W.L.S! That’s short for Tan & White Lip Sync :). This is typically an amazing show and tonight was one of the best I have seen. I love to watch the mish-mosh of Tans & Whites ranging from Blackfoot up to CITs on stage together dancing and having a blast. The Chiefs did a fantastic job of teaching their groups the dances and it was impressive how everyone was able to show off their skills and enthusiasm. The Tans won, but the truth is that anyone who got to sit in the audience and perform on stage felt pretty good about the evening…it was awesome!

And now, after a wonderful day, I am happy to be sitting in the office peacefully reflecting. It was a good one- not your traditional day at #TheRanch2016 but one that I am confident is ending in lots of happy letters home to all of you! Okay, that’s all for now- thanks for reading!
