The Sari Diaries- Wednesday 6/22/16

Tuesday, June 21 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

We have had an incredible day here in Chippyland and I am excited to share the details with you tonight. For the first day of activities, we had absolutely perfect weather, which was appreciated by all activity counselors and campers. Here are the highlights…

We woke up this morning to the sun beaming down and everyone was ready for day number one of activities at #TheRanch2016. I went to first period tennis and couldn’t have been happier. The tennis coaches, Annie and Maz, were amazing and I can already tell that the Senior Tennis Team is in for a good time this summer. From the tennis courts, we could see Rhi working those aerobics girls hard. They were completely into the workout…it was awesome. On my way back to the office I stopped by arts & crafts, pottery, dance and jogging. It was so cool to see campers eagerly participating in the activities that our staff have been working on over the past couple of weeks. Throughout the day, campers were already passing levels in skiing, hitting the archery target and paddle boarding around Dam Lake. Camp was hopping and the Chippies were having a blast!

Tonight we had our first Big & Little Sister Barbecue of the summer and it was super cute. Big and little sisters sat together on the messhall patio chatting and getting to know each other. Tomorrow night is Big & Little Sis Night and both the big and little sisters cannot wait! I love this Chippewa program, as our big sisters take genuine pride and feel a true sense of responsibility to make sure that their little sister is adjusting to camp and feels a connection with older campers. I might be biased, but in my opinion, this is one of those programs that sets us apart from the crowd…it is a major demonstration of the family feel at CRC :).

The staff show this evening was crazy…and I mean that in a good way. It began with the staff welcoming the campers with a Chippy song to “My House” which we changed to “Welcome to the Ranch.” Leah Berns, Ellie Coombs and Simone Shuman introduced each act with a rap…their talent was impressive to say the least! Some of the favorites included a parody to “Party In the USA” by the new staff, “Your Man”/“Move This” by the senior counselors and “Right Field” performed by Cliff while the entire camp joined in. As always, I loved dancing to “She’s In Love With The Boy” with the returning SCs. Back in 1999 when I was a CIT (yes I am that old), my age group made this dance up and we performed it at the Closing Staff Show. Since then, not a summer has passed without it being performed at least once! The evening obviously ended with a huge Chippy Dance Party! The music was loud, the dance moves were intense and the sweat was dripping. A successful night was shared by the entire Chippewa community!

While I could go on and on and then on some more about the fun we had today, I think it is bedtime around here. As a reminder, tomorrow night (Thursday), The Sari Diaries will be written by guest blogger Soph-Aloaf! Enjoy your night and I look forward to writing to you all again on Friday!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
