The Sari Diaries- Tuesday 8/5/14

Monday, August 04 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

It was a wonderful day at #CRC2014! There was lots of laughter and a few tears, but those tears were a sign of the incredible summer we have had. Here are the highlights…

  1. Today was the final day of our Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday activity schedule. At first period tennis, we had a couple of intense drills and it was lots of fun. Abigail W got up and around the lake for the first time on skis and she was ecstatic. During second period fishing, Maddie F and Sydney K each caught a fish. Additionally, Sarah S added to her gold collection in archery, and might just have the most golds in Chippewa history! As you can tell, goals were being achieved and good times were being had all over Chippyland.

  1. After lunch, the entire camp went to the stables to watch Chippewa Rodeo. Horseback riding is one of the longest standing traditions at CRC and is still incredibly important to our program. Each summer, our most advanced riders put on a show for the entire camp and it is quite impressive. This summer, Katy B, Caroline H and Tara K were a part of the program and they all did a fantastic job. Coming from the perspective of someone who is not very comfortable on a horse, I could not believe the poise that these girls displayed as they rode at high speeds, jumped and completed the course gracefully. Not to mention, they had an audience of about three hundred people! This is all part of the beauty of camp though- even in high pressure situations, Chippies feel comfortable, safe and confident to take on challenges because they know they will be supported regardless of the outcome. In this case, the risk these three took was worthwhile and the whole camp appreciated their talent!

  1. This evening’s program was Staff Show. One of my favorite parts of the final week of camp is the tradition that is followed. I love that for the past twenty-two summers, I have had the privilege to experience all of the hype and emotion that comes along with the last week of Chippewa. Staff Show always begins with “Good Evening Folks,” and ends with singing a variety of camp songs (which always brings on the tears). The campers definitely enjoyed the show, especially the Mister Rogers skit, which poked fun at some camper events throughout the summer.

That’s about all from me for tonight. As the end is nearing, I am truly doing my best to enjoy it all…spend extra time with campers, hang out at activities, make sure we have office parties with the staff at night, and appreciate the beauty that is around us. Okay, thanks for reading!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
