The Sari Diaries- Tuesday 7/5/16

Monday, July 04 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

It was a scorcher in Chippyland today…cabin fans are blowing and windows are open to help the airflow on this warm day! Some people might say that after our outstanding day yesterday, today might feel like a let down. Those people though clearly have never spent a summer at CRC…it was truly another incredible day. Here are the highlights…

After a late-ish breakfast (we slept in for an extra half-hour), we headed to the Center Fire Circle to announce the United Nations Day captains. United Nations Day is one of the best days of camp and is held on the last Monday of first session. The camp is broken up into four teams (Spain, Tanzania, Mongolia and the Netherlands) and we compete in a wide range of activities throughout the day. From flag football to banner making and swim relays to synchronized swimming, there is something for everybody! In addition to the actual competitions, this is a day of spirit, teamwork and sportsmanship. There are four Colt Village captains chosen and four Wrangler Village captains chosen. This is a huge honor and is decided based on leadership, kindness and enthusiasm demonstrated. As each captain was given her torch to hold, the camp cheered for these eight deserving individuals. This summer’s UN Day captains are Chelsea M, Lily R, Sam G, Izzy R, Carly H, Dylan S, Hannah S and Lauren S. We are looking forward to an amazing UN Day and know that these campers along with their staff advisors will lead us well!

Today was the first day of activities for the second sign-up…seriously, can we get time to slow down?! Campers were excited to try new activities and continue building their skills in those that they are taking once again. Kayla D passed from red to blue cap today which was huge! Ashley (Swim Director) and Fradin (Waterfront Director) presented Kayla with her blue cap at dinner as the camp excitedly congratulated her!

This evening’s program was Chippy Challenges which was invented two years ago by Kate Bradley. It is a fun night in the South Field where cabins challenge staff members to different competitions. There was a jacks challenge, a basketball challenge, a trivia challenge and other crazy challenges including a Chippy slot machine. Lizzy LoGrande and Sophie Friedland tested their posture and walking abilities by walking across the field with a bucket of water on their heads…it was quite a sight! Overall, it was an entertaining and fun evening filled with laughter and healthy competition :). Oh yeah, I forgot to mention each cabin dressed up together…obviously…is it even a Chippewa event without costumes?

And that was our lovely day at #TheRanch2016. The rain is about to hit which will cool this place off a bit. Thanks for reading- I hope you all have a wonderful night!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
