The Sari Diaries- Tuesday 7/17/18

Monday, July 16 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

I am sure this is hard to imagine, but I am telling you, today’s events make this one of the best so far at #TheRanch2018. There were a couple of specific moments throughout the day that made me stop and remember just how wonderful a summer at CRC can be…and that all of the little things that occur in a single day here add up to something huge- something that can only be experienced on these grounds. Okay, that’s all for my philosophy tonight. Here’s what happened today.

This morning we enjoyed our first regular activities of the session. Already, good things were happening. At climbing, campers were excited to get things started. They are busy setting goals and flying up that wall. Over at archery, Ilana was very impressed as two campers got golds from the middle target! Both Sophie B and Maddie S should be very proud of their accomplishment!

In other morning news, Lakeview headed to Madeline Island for their camping trip while Timberwalk and Horseshoe went to the Porcupine Mountains. We have gotten great reports from both trips and we are looking forward to hearing about all of the fun that they are having when they return. Because of the camping trips, second period waterskiing was missing a bunch of campers, which turned into good luck for the swimmers with a dry day…they got to go tubing!

After a fabulous day all over camp, we had an amazing evening program. Our annual Unity Carnival in the South Field was crazy! Cabins dressed up together in different costumes ranging from animals to rockstars and from cowgirls to ninjas. Across the field, there was lots to do. In addition to the awesome music, there was fortune telling, face painting, cupcake decorating and more. A definite highlight was the whipped cream being thrown around…what started as pies in the face in an organized manner led to a whipped cream fight all over the field…it was good stuff!

And as the night ended, I had the good fortune of walking through the cabins in the South Field. Blackfoot was busy braiding hair and Silverspurs was planning for their day in town on Sunday. Meanwhile, Lucky-X was ballroom dancing, Circle C was reading their letters aloud and Wagon Ridge was playing cards. I stopped by Rafter^X and loved chit chatting with them. Cayla B was tattooing (with pen) her counselor, Emma…it was quite an intricate design! My last stop was Trailriders where they were having a blast. The Trailriders phenomenon is so cool…this is the summer when the entire age group lives in a cabin together for the first time…and without fail, the bonding that occurs is heart warming. Campers who have never lived together form new connections and it seems that old friendships grow even stronger. I love it!

Okay, that’s about it for tonight. The day was fantastic and the evening matched it. Talk to you all tomorrow- goodnight!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
