The Sari Diaries- Tuesday 6/27/17

Monday, June 26 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

I probably sound like a broken record but for real, this day at #TheRanch2017 was out of this world. Sometimes I wonder how it can possibly get better but this place continually amazes me. Here are the details from today…

At climbing first period, I got to hang out with Sabrina S, Sabrina M, Sabrina B, Reagan K, Lauren G, Mia W, Lily Z and Sadie S. Among the many topics we discussed, my favorite was about the activities they want to teach when they are counselors. I love that it is just assumed that they will be counselors at CRC. The culture of staying at camp for ten-plus years is alive and well…our campers feel that this is just a part of their lives…every summer for as long as they can foresee, they will be here at Chippewa. That is pretty cool!

After the fun at the wall, Sophie G, Julia H and I got to do the high ropes course together. They both glided across the stairway to heaven and Charlie Chaplin while I struggled to make it from one element to the other :). They were also very brave as they went down the TruBlue. It was cool to be up there with them, and to watch in amazement at their lack of fear 40 feet in the air!

At some point this morning, Avery K came running into the office out of breath. She excitedly relayed to Soph-Aloaf that Ali C got a bulls-eye in archery and a photo needed to be taken. As they ran back to the range together, Avery explained that not only was it a bulls-eye but the arrow was in the exact center of the target. The entire class was so proud of Ali, and Ryan (the archery instructor) announced this accomplishment at lunch.

Before dinner, Caitlin Taylor and Maddy S came to the office to tell me some big news. Maddy had a very proud smile on her face as Caitlin explained that there is now an official Climbing Wall Mini-IA…and that person is Maddy! She has demonstrated many of the IA skills and is going to continue working towards getting her official Instructor’s Aide!

Tonight was the Camper Talent Show! I literally could not wipe the smile off my face throughout the entire show- I know I was not alone in the pride I felt for our campers. From magic tricks to dances, and from burping the ABCs to singing, the talent was widespread. Campers who just met for the first time on June 19th performed together as if they had been practicing for months. It was an awesome display not only of the talent present here at CRC, but also of the confidence this community fosters. Obviously we had a wild dance party at the end of the show :).

And this news just in…Lucky-X came into the office to wrap me in toilet paper. Yes, you read that correctly…they got a 100 in cabin clean-up today and were very excited. Their counselors decided to reward them with a food party after a stop in the office and a small scavenger hunt. They are quite the cute crew, and well-deserving of this special night.

So I guess that’s all for this incredible day. Thanks for reading this evening- I’ll write to you all tomorrow!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
