The Sari Diaries - Thursday 8/2/18

Wednesday, August 01 by Sari Hirsch

Dearest Chippies,

I write to you this evening following an incredible Kahuna Day. It was a busy one, filled with lots of energy, cheering and good sportsmanship. You gotta love a day where everyone looks crazy and tries their hardest and overall just exudes happiness. Actually… I guess that’s kind of what every day is like around here… But regardless, today was a good one. Let me break it down for you.

Everyone showed up to breakfast in their team colors, ready for a day of fun and friendly competition. Campers and staff from teams McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, Taco Bell and Domino’s spent the morning playing a version of dodgeball that was introduced during Realm. It’s a game that has quickly become a Chippy favorite, and it was awesome to start out the day with something that required such a great deal of teamwork. Everyone had a blast and it definitely set the bar high in terms of spirit for the rest of the day!

At lunch, we sat with our teams, which meant I had the great fortune of dining with a random group of Dunkin Donuts Colt Village campers. It was a lot of first-year campers who I haven’t yet spent much time with—and who likely wouldn’t have spent quality time with each other if not for this opportunity—yet it felt as if we had all been friends for years. It was a nice reminder that our common love of camp is more important than age or how long we’ve known each other. I loved hearing their opinions about how the day was going thus far, and their enthusiasm for Kahuna Day (and camp generally) was infectious!

If you can believe it, this afternoon was even more action-packed than the morning. Between knock-out, banner making, kickball, steal the bacon and so much more, everywhere you looked campers were busy earning points for their teams. Colt Village Taco Bell captain Ashley R crushed it during the swim relay and Grace F beat her record climbing up the easy wall—35 seconds! We ended the day with a delicious luau down at the waterfront. It was a low-key night, and it was a nice way to unwind and reflect on all the action of the eventful day. I have to hand it to Shim and Melissa Spero—their hard work and planning paid off. Today couldn’t have been more fun, and it all happened thanks to them. Congratulations to Dunkin Donuts on their well-earned victory. You deserved all 310 of those points you earned!

Well… I think that’s it for tonight. This is sadly my final Thursday evening post of #TheRanch2018 :( but hopefully I will have one more opportunity to chat with you all before the summer is through. Thanks for reading!

Sincerely,
Soph Aloaf
