The Sari Diaries- Thursday 7/2/15

Thursday, July 02 by Sari Hirsch

Dearest Chippies,

As I come to you with this special edition of The Sari Diaries for the third week in a row, I feel luckier than ever that I am able to share my Thursday evenings with each and every one of you. I haven’t yet decided if it is because I write The Sari Diaries on Thursdays or rather just sheer coincidence, but one way or another, I do know that Thursdays are by far the most exciting day of the week here at CRC.

The past few days have been a little on the chillier side, however, the weather finally turned around today and we were able to run regular first through fifth period activities. Tonight’s evening program was the camper talent show, which was full of cute dances and cuter campers. And to cap it all off, we had an ALL CAMP CATHY’S… WAHOOOO! It was an amazing day start to finish, and the high energy and toothy grins were yet another reminder of how incredibly lucky I am to spend my summers here on Chippewa soil.

Today, camp was lucky enough to have nine old-time Chippies grace us with their presence. My fingers are far too tired to type out their names, but I do love them all and if they decide to come back and visit for a second time, I will consider a more personalized shoutout. This being said, campers and counselors alike were excited to see them, and I hope that between now and when they leave on Sunday morning, I will be able to convince them to stay for the rest of the summer.

I’m not sure if you’re all aware, but the 4th of July is just a brief two days away. I can’t account for any of your feelings towards this festive occasion, however, I personally am struggling to contain my excitement as I count down the minutes (1,466 to be exact). Any of you who have gone to camp or sent your kids to camp understand that the camping environment in general is one that fosters not only independence, teamwork, and resilience (among much else, of course) but also provides an outlet for kids to just be kids. At Chippewa, I always feel in touch with my inner-child, however, on the 4th of July in particular, I am especially youthful. I typically walk away from the afternoon carnival covered in paint and whipped cream, after having gone down the slip ’n slide (which, in case you forgot, is one of my only camp talents) at least 30 times… Some people laugh with me, others laugh at me, but either I’m laughing at at the end of the day that’s really all that matters. In other words, the 4th of July is undoubtedly one of the greatest days of the summer, and considering the immense effort LV has already put into preparing for this exciting celebration, I am sure that—much like #TheRanch2015—it is going to be one for the books.

Thanks for reading and see you next week.

Sincerely,
Soph-Aloaf
