The Sari Diaries- Thursday 6/25/15

BL sis

Dearest Chippies,

Aloaf here, live from Sari’s office to report on yet another fun-filled day at #TheRanch2015. Last time I spoke with you all (yes, I do consider this to be a conversation… I hope that you feel the same way), I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of the campers. I would be lying if I said that this place is anything without their spirit, energy, and genuine happiness, and the campers of 2015 certainly do not disappoint in any such regard. Over the past four days, I have been reminded time and time again how incredibly lucky I am to call CRC my home, and I have no doubt that the weeks to come will only continue to reinforce this to be the truth.

BLS

Today started out a bit rainy, but lucky for all of us here at 8258 County O, the sun made a surprise appearance just as first period was announced. While every day at CRC is out of this world (I think that goes without saying), the first few days of activities are especially exciting as the novelty of camp sets in and new and returning campers alike face their fears, re-remember how to do things, or try activities out for the first time. There really isn’t anything quite like that proud smile of accomplishment that comes with getting up on skis or conquering the ropes course. And from personal experience, I can attest to it being equally as pride-inducing from the other side—that of the counselor—knowing that it’s because of you that a camper will use a ton of !!!!!!!!!! and ALL CAPS in the letter they write home later that night during flashlight time.

big lil sis

In other news, tonight was Big and Little Sis night, an evening program during which each Colt Village camper is paired with a Wrangler Village “big sister” to participate in a series of activities such as shoe toss, obstacle course, and cupcake decorating. It is one of my favorite evening activities and although I was unable to participate tonight, I give you my word that I will be out there second session (let me know if you’re interested in being my Big or Little Sis). This program is run by the CITs, and it is always so great to see them take on the leadership of organizing and running an evening program. Tonight’s Big and Little Sis champs were Rebecca R. and Rachel B. as well as Julia F. and Ryan L., who celebrated their victory with a delicious Cathy’s treat.

That’s all I’ve got for you tonight. Thanks for tuning in and putting up with my sappy anecdotes and (unnecessary) tangents. It’s a lot of pressure to be on this side of the computer screen, attempting to strike the delicate balance between informative and funny… But as always, it’s my pleasure to provide you with today’s Chippy updates. Until next time.

Sincerely,
Soph-Aloaf
