The Sari Diaries- Sunday 7/23/17

Saturday, July 22 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

What a day it has been! Us Chippy girls have been very social all day long. It was a bit cooler than it has been the last couple of days but it was still a rain-free day that allowed us to follow through with all of the fun that was planned! Here are the details from our fabulous day at #TheRanch2017…

This morning, our Kahuna Day captains were announced. Eliza Levy and Ari Kohn are heading up this incredibly popular program…they are working hard to plan a day full of spirit, sportsmanship and fun. The camp will be divided into four teams and each team has a Colt and Wrangler Village captain. These captains (similar to UN Day) are selected based on their demonstration of leadership as well as their consistent display of the Chippewa Compass Characteristics. The following campers were called to the center of the Center Fire Circle to receive tiki torches that signify their captainship: Lauren G, Naomi G, Akira I, Emma G, Dani C, Talia T, Rebecca R and Marni S. These are eight very well-deserving campers who we are proud of. We are excited to see all that they accomplish leading up to and on Kahuna Day!

After a morning of regular activities and a delicious picnic lunch, the entire camp boarded school buses to head to Camp Agawak. Yes- you read that right…we had an all girls social! The Agawak CITs planned a nice day of fun. The Chippewa campers got to hang out with their age group from Agawak doing a number of different activities. It was very cute to see campers reunite with their friends, and also for camp friends to meet home friends!

Then this evening, we headed to Camp Menominee for our now annual Chippewa-Menominee Color Run! Campers and counselors dressed in white shirts and ran around Menominee’s field as colored powder was sprayed through the air and onto their clothes, hair and faces. Everybody looked great and had a blast running, then dancing, and of course hanging out with their Menominee relatives and friends.

Last but not least, we had a staff meeting tonight. By far, my favorite part of each staff meeting is when we do Roses. That is a time for staff members to share highlights from their week. Sometimes they thank other staff members, sometimes they talk about kind interactions that they witnessed and sometimes they talk about accomplishments from the week. Tonight’s seemed extra special. Morgan Levy reminded us that Maddie K was sooooo excited for her big sister Skylar S when she was announced as a captain of her flag football team. Hannah Simon talked about a really sweet anecdote involving two of her campers. And Graci Goldstein told us that Jessica Kaplan jumped in the lake which led to a chain reaction of all of her campers doing the same. There were many more stories and thank-yous shared…a really nice reminder of all of the good things going on around here!

And that’s about it from our day at CRC. We had a lot of fun and are looking forward to another fantastic day tomorrow. Thanks for reading- I hope you all have a lovely night!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
