The Sari Diaries- Saturday 7/23/16

Friday, July 22 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

Here we are at CRC after yet another incredible day. It was definitely hot today but has finally cooled off and the rain this evening will likely make life around here even more comfortable. Here are the highlights…

This morning started earlier than normal with our first Polar Bear Swim since 2012. Dr Dave Margolis was a camp doctor here for a long time and each summer he would choose a morning for those who wanted to jump as a group into the lake. It was a popular event for campers and counselors alike. This summer, Dr Dave’s daughter, Melissa, is back at camp as one of our CNAs. Dave and his wife Jody (also a Chippewa alum) came to visit Melissa and we decided to have a revival Polar Bear Swim. Due to the heat and the hype, we had 130 campers and staff who jumped in (in three shifts). It was a fun time for all! A special thank-you to Hannah Simon, Rhianna Titmarsh, Simone Shuman, Monica Fishbein, Claire Schwartz, Isabel Prior and Dori Greenberg for lifeguarding and doing the buddy board at that early hour.

We had a full day of regular activities, which was appreciated by everyone. Emma G got around the lake on skis for the second time and she was super excited. I headed out to the ropes course and got to see campers all over it- some were going across the Charlie Chaplin, others down the true blue and some were on the stairway to heaven. The South Field had Eanna and eight campers playing soccer…all thoroughly enjoying!

Dinner tonight was super cute- we had a Big and Little Sister BBQ. As I was down there eating with some of the visitors, I got to watch Lakeview and Blackfoot campers bonding and dining together. It was so sweet to see how the younger campers looked at their big sisters…they were so excited to get to know each other and the effort made by the big sisters was awesome.

Tonight was supposed to be Screen on the Green but we had a bit of rain so we moved the movie to the theater. Campers brought camp chairs & crazy creeks and enjoyed a quiet night full of relaxation. As they walked to the theater, I saw Leah P and Coco C giggling about something. They met less than a week ago but it seems that there is already a strong connection. I couldn’t help but smile as they walked excitedly into the theater knowing that something is working around here.

So that’s the report from #TheRanch2016. It was a good one and the day honestly flew by. We are looking forward to tomorrow but are genuinely hoping that time slows down a bit so that the end doesn’t come too soon. Okay, thanks for reading- have a good night!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
