The Sari Diaries- Monday 7/6/15

Monday, July 06 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

This was officially the rainiest day of the summer but it was still “Chip-tastic.” As the music began on the morning announcements, the rain started coming from the sky. Don’t worry though, we have the world’s best Program Directors who kept the day moving and exciting! Here are the details…

  1. This morning’s program is new to CRC but was one that Morgan and Monica have been working on since the start of pre-camp. Chippy Grammys was definitely not a disappointment and according to one camper, it was “the best rainy day activity ever!” Each cabin chose a song and created a music video to that song. Counselors helped their cabins to construct a story line and shoot a video. Each cabin was more creative than the next and it was so fun to walk around and watch the different methods and ideas everyone had. While campers were working on their videos, the out of cabin staff worked hard to turn the theater into an awards show venue. Not surprisingly, the theater looked incredible and within an hour had a campy-chic feel :). Once the videos were created, we all headed to the theater for a viewing party. There were lots of laughs and cheers coming from the theater and awards were given at the end. My personal favorite was Timberwalk’s video and they won the award for “Best Video with a Social Message.” It was all very cute and a good time was had across the board!

  1. After lunch, there was a moment when we thought the sun might come out, but we were wrong. No worries though, the Miss Ugly contest was prepared and ready to go. Each cabin chose a camper to dress-up in an anti-beauty pageant way. Some cabins chose to go the “geeky” route, some dressed in mismatched clothes and others looked like they had rolled around in some mud. Regardless of their interpretation of how to prepare for the Miss Ugly contest, everyone looked, shall I say, interesting! Each cabin presented their model and told the whole camp about her. It was funny to hear and see- all in all, a successful program!

  1. This evening’s main event was Glorious Ladies of Wrestling (AKA GLOW). GLOW has been an evening program at Chippewa since 1998…my Lakeview summer…and it is a camper favorite! Staff members are put in small teams of two or three and are matched against each other to wrestle. Some of the matches included Crocs vs. Birkenstocks, the Blob vs. the Splashmat and University of Wisconsin vs. University of Michigan. Each contest is announced to the whole camp and campers decide on who they think will win. Teams are announced and the staff members have choreographed entrance dances as they are being introduced. The wrestling itself occurs on our wrestling ring which is created in the center of the theater with mats and mattresses. Cabins sit in the round, and can be heard from the theater all across camp as they cheer on their predicted winners. As always, this event was a blast for both campers and staff!

And that’s the story from #TheRanch2015 for today. We are looking forward to the sun shining tomorrow and getting into our regularly scheduled activities. Thanks for reading and check back soon for more highlights of our summer!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
