The Sari Diaries- Monday 7/3/17

Sunday, July 02 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

July 3rd was a stupendous day at CRC and I am here to tell you all about it! I am about to share a bunch of cute stories with you, and the truth is, my day was literally filled with so many of these. So here we go…

It all started at breakfast when first session Blackfoot from 2016 let me know that we had to have a meeting outside on the patio. When I got out there, they were huddled up discussing the agenda. Once they were prepared, they presented their case…last year their cabin won G.L.O.W. and they were still waiting on their ice cream party. We will, of course, make sure that they get it before their departure this summer…a mini Blackfoot 2016 reunion will be a party!

As I left breakfast, I saw Avery K outside the doors of the lodge a bit out of breath and looking at her watch. When I asked what she was up to, she let me know that she and her cabinmate, Sabrina S, were trying to figure out which was the quickest path from the Adler Lodge to their cabin (Cactus). She had already timed one of the paths and ran back to do the same for the other path. Clearly, there are important trials being done at #TheRanch2017 to improve the efficiency in the lives of our campers :).

Don’t worry, there was plenty of excitement this afternoon as well. About three years ago, before her first summer, Violet S painted a canvas for the office that had a picture of her in a Tan Team t-shirt playing tennis. On it, she wrote how excited she was for the summer ahead. It has been in the office ever since and I have intended to hang it up. But sometimes camp gets in the way of getting the little things done…until today! Nick Donaldson was in the office asking if anything needed to be done. Knowing that he is a pretty handy guy, I asked if he could hang the canvas for me. Sure enough, within minutes, Violet’s artwork was hung. I feel pretty confident that it will be up there for many, many years thanks to Nick!

After fifth period, the entire camp gathered at the Center Fire Circle for the announcement of the United Nations Day captains. UN Day is a Chippy favorite…the camp will be split into four countries and we will spend the entirety of the day competing in various games and events. Each team has both a Colt and Wrangler Village captain…these captains are selected by the staff for their display of leadership, kindness and enthusiasm. A lot of thought gets put into this decision, and it is a great honor to be chosen as a captain of one of these teams. The camp cheered like crazy for Dani G, Emma E, Avery K, Julia W, Molly L, Grace D, Ellie W and Rebecca V. These are eight very well-deserving campers who we are confident will demonstrate great spirit and sportsmanship in leading their teams to an amazing day on Monday!

This evening was Tan & White Counselor Hunt! Counselors hid all over camp- in the woods, in attics, under couches, and some in more obvious places- as campers worked together to find them. Each staff member was worth a different amount of points and clues were given over the announcements. A special shout-out to Oli Burden for being the final staff member found. I must also give some credit to Elana L for finding me at the bottom of the Lost & Found Monster (with tons of lost & found covering me). While both teams did a great job, tonight the Whites came out on top!

And there you have it, that was our day at #TheRanch2017. At this point, everyone is in bed getting a good night’s rest before tomorrow’s festivities commence. I think I speak for each and every person in Chippyland when I say that we are so excited for the 4th of July 2017! Lakeview has an incredible day planned for us…wahoo! Okay, goodnight Chippies.

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
