The Sari Diaries- Monday 7/20/15

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

After a day including nothing but blue skies at CRC, I am happy to report that we have a whole lot of happy campers! Our day was full of fun and excitement that was capped off with an evening program to remember. Here are the highlights:

  1. This morning, our second session campers got to visit different activities to try them and learn about them before making decisions about what to sign up for. While they were busy with their swim tests, checking out the wall & ropes and getting to know the horses, eight week campers were in the South Field doing aerobics with Natalie.

  1. At rest hour, we gathered at the Center Fire Circle for a couple of VERY important announcements. The first cabin clean-up scores of second session were read and the cabins were decently clean…pretty good for the first day! The Neutrals then announced the Tan and White teams and the cheering was incredibly loud as new members of each team were called. The final announcement was huge- all Colt and Wrangler Villagers found out who their camp big and little sisters were. It was so cute to see the big sisters rushing to meet their little sisters in their cabins and the little sisters were elated to finally get to know their camp big sisters!

  1. Before the Tan & White game, Tans met in the South Field and Whites met in the North Field to practice cheers. The Whites also elected a new Warrior Sachem. Talia T is the official new leader of the White Warriors and everyone is very excited for her!

  1. The main event was Sandstorm- the traditional second session opening game. The main concept of the game is getting a pile of sand from one end of camp to the other. That being said, the logistics of moving it from the South to North is where the exhilaration lies. The Braves start in the South Field and are passing the sand using bowls. While this is happening, there are two Chiefs searching through the big pile of sand for the Golden Snitches. Once found, the team who discovers the snitch gets to send a whole bucket of sand to the North Field. The Hunters, Warriors and Chiefs all used different methods to transport the sand. The game ends with the entire camp cheering in the North Field for the Grand & Chief Sachems who are bringing the sand in the final leg of the game from a bin at the edge of the field to the scale in the middle of the field. Once the scale falls to the ground, the game is over. The Tans weighed down their scale first tonight but it was very sweet as the whole camp cheered for the Whites to finish.

So that was our day at #TheRanch2015. We had some good times and the day was a success. As I read back at the explanation of Sandstorm, I am not sure it makes total sense but hopefully you all have some idea of how this Chippy-created game is played.

Okay, thanks for reading tonight- have a good one!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
