The Sari Diaries- Monday 7/18/16

Sunday, July 17 by Sari Hirsch

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

It has been a glorious day in Chippyland and possibly the best first full day I can remember in second session history. The day was action-packed, fun and full of smiling Chippy faces. Read below to learn all about the excitement that occurred around here…

This morning, eight-weekers played cabin “Family Feud” while second session campers walked around to activities to take swim tests, learn about wall & ropes and visit the stables. The energy was high among both the campers and staff…everyone seems to really be enthused and it truly feels like the start of the summer once again.

This afternoon we had sign-ups and campers are super excited about their activities. When I was in the lodge and checking out schedules, each one I looked at was better than the next. There are campers excited for water skiing, horseback riding and even swimming (yes, it’s true!). While sign-ups were going on, campers and their counselors were rotating through open activities. Some were on the high ropes course, some were at swimming, others were at tennis and still others were jumping on the tramps. It was the perfect balance of structure and free play…there was plenty to do but also some choice and flexibility.

This evening’s program was Sandstorm- the classic opening second session Tan & White game. Tans and Whites worked with their teams to move a huge pile of sand from the South Field to the North Field. Once in the North Field, the Chief and Grand Sachems along with two other CITs from each team transported the sand from the bucket their teams had filled to the weight apparatus. The game was won by the Tans when their garbage can dropped all the way to the ground. It was an incredibly close competition…the time difference between each team finishing was sixteen seconds! Without a doubt, tonight was an intense way to kick-off Tan & White this session!

So that’s the run-down from #TheRanch2016. It was a good day around here and we are looking forward to an outstanding day full of activities tomorrow. Thanks for reading- have a wonderful night!

Happy Camping and Love,
Sari
