The Sari Diaries- Friday 7/20/18

Dear Chippies, Parents, Family and Friends,

I can’t believe that it took this long but it finally happened- we had a full on rainy day at CRC. And to be honest with you, it was amazing. Now some of you are probably thinking that I say every day is amazing and that a rainy day couldn’t be that great…but I am here to tell you that it was. I’m not saying that I wish every day would be rainy but once in awhile (like maybe once or twice a session), it breaks things up…it gives us an opportunity to be a little creative…and it feels campy!

The first shout-out goes to all those who were on a camping trip last night. Full disclosure I was kind of expecting that the rain overnight, while it was light, would have a negative impact on these trips. That said, when they returned, the reviews were glowing. The rain didn’t deter them from enjoying nature and bonding with one another. The canoe trip crew went on for quite some time recounting their stories…one of the highlights was feeding the deer at their campsite…pretty cool!

As for those of us at camp, this morning we had a cabin Video Star competition. Cabins created music videos in various locations of camp and then they were shared in the theater. There were awards given out for Best Costumes (A-Frame), Funniest Video (Circle C), Best Choreography (Silverspurs) and Best Overall Music Video (Wagon Ridge). Campers and staff loved making the videos, and then watching them all together was quite entertaining!

After lunch, the rain continued. Don’t you worry though, we have plenty of rainy day programs up our sleeve. This afternoon we had Tan & White Skit Night (though it was actually the daytime). The Braves created a commercial for their team, and it was very cute to see the commercials for White Screen (that protects you from the sun) and Tan Jibbitz (the little gems that go in the holes of Crocs). The Hunters performed a cheer that they made up and the Warriors sang a song. The final acts were the Chief skits- they were hilarious and creative. The performances by both teams from Braves through Chiefs were awesome. In the end, the Tans won!

Tonight’s campfire was held in the new building (due to the weather) and the theme was Making A Difference. Ryan S led the campfire and she was fabulous. All participants in the campfire did a really nice job of expressing that each of us, no matter how old, has the power to make a difference in someone else’s life. Be it at camp, at school or in our communities, we each have the opportunity and responsibility to help others. Poems and quotes were read by many campers including Ella W, Zoey B, Lily H, Julia H, Chloe C, Alexa R, Samantha G and Skylar S. We had the privilege of listening to a sermonette from Julie Alitto (Camp Good Friend) who is visiting us this weekend. And then Sasha L gave the camper sermonette, which was incredibly powerful. I know I speak for many when I say that I am truly proud of how confidently she spoke about a topic that is so close to her heart. While she was aiming to empower all of us to make a difference in our communities, she was indeed making a difference in ours. And then our campfire ended in a wonderful keylog ceremony and rendition of the Chippewa Creed.

And that was our magical day at CRC…it rained but that only enhanced the spirit around here. Ari Kohn claims, “This was the BEST. DAY. EVER!” And quite frankly, I think that is the sentiment of most everyone at #TheRanch2018! Okay, thanks for reading…talk to you tomorrow!
