Staff Spotlight- December 2014

Monday, December 01 by Sari Hirsch

After introducing both our Camper and Alumni Spotlights, we are excited to announce our first Staff Spotlight this month! Each month, we will highlight a different staff member and all of her Chippy awesomeness. We hope you enjoy learning about our amazing staff and reading all about their camp experiences, their motivation and what incredible people they are!

For our inaugural Staff Spotlight, we are excited to feature Dani Harkavy. Dani is a second generation Chippy who was a fantastic CIT last summer. We are looking forward to having her back in the summer of 2015 and appreciate all of her enthusiasm for camp. Below are Dani’s responses…

How many summers have you been at camp?
This is going to be my 7th summer and I could not be more excited!

What cabin were you in during the summer of 2014?
Lucky-X!

What is your favorite part about being a counselor at CRC?
As beautiful as Chippewa is, it is the people that make camp the most magical place on Earth. I love the friendships I have made over the past six summers, and it is so special to be able to create relationships with the younger campers. I want to be able to be a role model to them and help them experience everything that Chippewa has to offer.

What was your favorite memory from the summer of 2014?
My favorite memory with my campers was the Fourth of July carnival (great job, Lakeview 2014)! My favorite memory last summer with my age group was our camping trip. I loved going to Summerfest to see Brad Paisley and Darius Rucker, and visiting Madison was a lot of fun too.

What is your favorite camp memory of all time?
It’s so hard to pick just one! One of my all-time favorite memories was in 2012 when I was in Trailriders. Our theme was Trailrider Tributes so my counselors split our whole cabin into teams and sent us on a Hunger Games scavenger hunt all around camp. It ended in the horseback riding arena where we had to retrieve the last clue. In 2013, I loved being able to help plan Fourth of July and Chippy Awards, as well as winning Miss Chippewa Rodeo, which was amazing!

What are you most looking forward to in the summer of 2015?
I am super excited to be able to watch Songfest for the first time! And doing the walking song during the first friendship campfire as a first-year JC will be pretty fun, too!

How do you stay in touch with your camp friends during the year?
I talk to my camp friends at least once a day whether it is on our group chat, Snapchat or even FaceTiming. Being Chippy dawgs, a lot of our plans revolve around food or going out to eat. Whenever we hang out, we always end up dancing to camp songs and just having a good time.

What do you do when you are not at camp?
I honestly live 10 months at home for the 2 at camp. Besides annoying all my friends at home by talking about camp, I am in a bunch of school clubs and I babysit outside of school.

Anything else you want to share with your Chippy family?
Get excited for summer 2015!!! Until then..keep those campfires burning! :)
