Alumni Spotlight- January 2017

Monday, January 09 by Sari Hirsch

Kirsty Lowry Blattner is featured as our January Alumni Spotlight. Kirsty came to camp from New Zealand and loved Wisconsin so much that she eventually moved there permanently :). While at camp, Kirsty was an awesome counselor and windsurfing instructor. After taking a few summers off, she came back in the early 2000’s and was a great leader at CRC. Kirsty is currently in the process of publishing a cook book which is so cool- you should definitely check it out! Read below to learn all about Kirsty’s camp experience and life. A big thank-you to Kirsty for sharing all of this with us!

What years were you at CRC?
1996, 2001 & 2002

Which summer was your favorite and why?
Each year was my favorite for different reasons. 2001 was the year I met my husband at camp – so that was a spectacular year!

What is your favorite camp memory?
When my windsurfing kids passed a level in windsurfing! Was so amazing to see them progress and overcome the obvious obstacles; offshore wind, leeches, dragonflies and cold water!

What was your favorite activity at camp?
Windsurfing and horse riding were my favorites.

Were you a Tan or a White?
The only time in my ginger freckled life that I’ve been Tan!

How do you keep in touch with your camp friends?
I saw Per Hanson in Sweden, Carrie Donovan in Washington DC when September 11th happened – I was across from the Pentagon when the plane crashed. I caught up with Shauna McGlamery, Tom and Pam in Tuscon. Stephanie Jones and Carrie Donovan were bridesmaids at my wedding. Abby Stoner and I caught up in Australia and recently chatted on Skype. Shana Goldberg and I caught up through messenger and others through Facebook Land.

Where do you live now?
Madison, Wisconsin is now my new home.

What do you do?
I have my own business Aussie Speaker www.aussiespeaker.com I’m a qualified Health Coach, Transformational Coach (NLP), Professional Speaker and Author. I work 1-1 with people feeling stuck in some aspect of their lives and get them motivated and excited to reach their goals and dreams. I present at businesses/not for profits/organizations on health and life coaching topics. I’ve written 3 books (not finished yet) and have 1 in the process of getting published.

What do you miss most about camp?
I miss Hudson (Cook from 1996), campfire evenings, the songs, the sense of community and deep friendships. I miss the incredible art creations and all the fun events and traditions. It’s like being transported to another land – Chippy Camp Land. I miss everything about it and can’t wait to visit again, maybe this year!

Is there anything else you want to share with your Chippy family?
I wish you all knew how much you effected my life and moulded me to become who I am today. The deep friendships and lessons learned will stay with me forever and my life is blessed because of those opportunities. We are all so privileged to have CRC in our lives.

I’d love to share my latest book, Heal into Health, with you all. It’s a cook book, bringing the Fun, Freedom and Flexibility back to your Food! All the recipes can be made Prep2Plate in 5-15 minutes. Everything is Gluten Free and Vegan. I’m not saying that everyone should eat that way 100% of the time – it’s more of a Choose Your Own Adventure style of book. I’m crowd sourcing to get a publisher and would LOVE your help to spread the word. Here is the link to the Publishizer Page:
