Alumni Spotlight- December 2017

Monday, December 25 by Sari Hirsch

Our December Alumni Spotlight features Jennifer Fisher Dorfman. Jennifer, or Fisher as she was called at CRC, came from Cincinnati as a camper. She was an awesome camper turned CIT and is now an active alum who is enthusiastic about all things Chippewa. Read below to learn about Fisher’s camp experience and about the newest member of her family who will one day be a spirited Chippy herself :).

1. What years were you at CRC?
1995-2001

2. Which summer was your favorite and why?
It is so hard to choose just one, but probably the summer of 1999, being a camper in Trailriders. It was the first summer our entire age group was living together under one roof which was awesome since we were such a close knit group! I loved the Mackinac Island cabin trip that year too.

3. What is your favorite camp memory?
Of course there were the big events that stick out— planning 4th of July/Chippy Awards in Lakeview, being a UN Day Captain, annual Songfests and Coloramas, but looking back, my favorite memories are all just the ones from the typical camp days. Waking up to the sun shining and Tom’s wacky morning announcements, late night cabin hang outs, coming up with cabin dances and lip syncs & screaming for the Tan Team in the mess hall!

4. What was your favorite activity at camp?
Do evening activities count? My favorite activities at camp were Tan & White games. I loved how spirited the entire camp became from the beginning of the day cheering in the mess hall, to meeting up ready to compete at the Center Fire Circle. I also love how each program was so unique- you didn’t have to be the best athlete for every game which was a plus for me :).

5. Were you a Tan or a White?
Yes we can, GO TAN!

6. How do you keep in touch with your camp friends?
Living in Chicago makes it really easy to keep in touch with and see camp friends [who have now outgrown the title of “camp friends” to best friends!] all the time. Some of my closest friends in life are the ones I met at camp— I was even able to live with my best friend, Susan, through most of college. As we have grown older, it has been especially nice to share many of life’s major moments with fellow Chippies— traveling to be at each others weddings, and more recently spending time with each others kids!

7. Where do you live now?
Chicago, IL

8. What do you do?
I work in interior design but am currently a stay-at-home mom to my 3 week old daughter and future Chippy, Lilah!

9. What do you miss most about camp?
Everything!! Although I see many of my closest camp friends all the time in Chicago, there is something different about living together at CRC for eight weeks a year, where we can be our craziest selves without a care in the world. Camp was always such an escape from the real world for me, and it’s hard to find anything comparable as an adult! I also don’t think I fully appreciated the beauty of the actual CRC grounds as a younger camper. What an incredible opportunity it was to be able to spend my entire summer living in such a serene environment!

10. Is there anything else you want to share with your Chippy family?
I am so grateful that I was able to experience seven summers at Chippewa. Aside from gaining an incredible group of friends, I truly feel my time at CRC taught me so many valuable lessons and allowed me to grow into the person I am today. To the current Chippies- enjoy every minute of your camping days, they will fly by!
